Ardee is an extraordinary character: conflicted, biting, intelligent, misunderstood and a very valuable point of view for the reader on what is happening in Adua. The illustrated scene corresponds to one of the first chapters of Jezal:

He looked at Ardee and thanked fate that some long-forgotten military tailor had thought to provide members of the Royal Guard with high-waisted jackets. She thanked him with deep sincerity, because Jezal's jacket was the only thing she was wearing.
