Tyanna of the Tower

One of the illustrations I had the pleasure of making for "The Rise of the Dragon, An Illustrated History of the Targaryen Dynasty, Volume One" by George RR Martin, Elio García and Linda Antonsson.

Tyanna is one of those topics that really excited me from the moment I knew I had to illustrate it. She's one of the most interesting characters for me: enigmatic, dark, wise, powerful and one of those whose POV in the books would be a treasure to understand one of the darkest moments in Westeros' history: the reign of Maegor the cruel. In my opinion, she's a sort of mix between Varys and Melissandre, a combination of two totally opposite poles on certain topics like the use of magic, a barrier that she breaks to join knowledge and hidden arts, a very unusual and powerful balance.

"Tyanna was a pale beauty with black hair the color of a raven. Her name may come from the fact that Pentos is known for its square brick towers (...) Tyanna is said to have dabbled in sorcery and alchemy. She is remembered as a black-hearted woman who was hated and feared. Tyanna served as mistress of whisperers on her husband's small council and was dubbed "the king's raven". It was said that discussing secrets in the Red Keep was foolish, as rats and other vermin were her spies"
