Lord Alyn's fleet

One of the illustrations I had the pleasure of making for "The Rise of the Dragon, An Illustrated History of the Targaryen Dynasty, Volume One" by George RR Martin, Elio García and Linda Antonsson.

In this scene it was required to show the battle between Alyn Velaryon's (Alyn of Hull, Alyn Oakenfist) fleet and the Braavosi fleet in the Stepstones. This is the moment that gave Alyn his reputation and the nickname of Alyn Oakenfist. The first idea was on showing Alyn's boat, Queen Rahenys, smashing a bravoosi dromon from a POV in the far distance. But, I thought it could be more interesting to take advantage of such a poetic name for a boat, Queen Rhaenys, and how it should have seen that last moment for the dromon's crew. Please imagine that moment when the fog vanishes and from the most spectral white landscape it appears a wood sculpted face, the figurehead of the boat, followed by a giant ship. It's not just a boat coming to break yours and push you off into the sea: it's queen Rhaenys claiming for your end.

I found this POV very poetic, and more dynamic than a normal battle in the sea, because this battle in my opinion has nothing usual at all, and even functional: in the future of the story, Unwin Peake gives a replica of the Queen Rhaenys to Alyn Velaryon, which was immediately recognized by him. Of course, the structure of the boat and other elements must be enough for it, but a particular figurehead should provide a bit more of recognition (at least for all those of use who have no idea about ships).
