Joe Abercrombie's Last Argument of Kings - El Último Argumento de los Reyes, Spanish cover

Last Argument of Kings / El Último Argumento de los Reyes

Cover artwork I made for the reedition of Joe Abercrombie’s “The First Law” trilogy in Spanish, in this case the third book Last Argument of Kings / El Último Argumento de los Reyes with Runas / Alianza Editorial.

The scene shows Ferro activating The Seed in Adua, in the Square of Marshals.
I think I have never donde two different covers for the same book, and that was a factor that complicated the work. The chosen scene for the illustrated version was the perfect one in my opinion, so finding a second choice was a challenge. After discarding some scenes related to the title but not really significant, It was clear for me that I wanted Ferro for the cover, and instead of running away from the previous cover, I decided to make a sort of relation.

They are a continuation: a road that starts and ends in a very different way. On one hand, the illustrated version had Jezal on his horse, perfectly dressed, triumphant, with the clamor of the people around and the great men of the past looking at him. The great circus, the believable thing, the big lie. On the other hand, we have the continuation of the Kingsway that ends in The Square of Marshals with the Lord’s Round, but the place is all destroyed, chaotic, with Ferro (the most opposite character to Jezal) who is dirty, exhausted and in trance, between this world and the other. The unbelievable, the reality, the truth.

Both covers are facing each other, but just the good reader will be able to do this read which, in my opinion, is very related with Abercrombie’s narrative and what essentially remains in me after reading The First Law trilogy.
