Meraxes and Rhaenys in The Last Storm - Aegon’s Conquest, by me

Meraxes and Rhaenys Targaryen moments before the battle known as The Last Storm during Aegon’s Conquest, digital concept fan art I made inspired by George RR Martin and Westeros.org . It is one of the most epic scenes in my opinion of the Targaryen conquest, and it would be amazing to watch it on the spin off by HBO.

I remember the first time I read about it, and despite the action during the battle itself, I’ve always thought about the moments before, the preparation and waiting with the sky almost breaking into a storm, the old Argilac seeing his seat and name for the last time and the offensive of Meraxes and Rhaenys changing Westeros forever. It should be simply glorious to be watched on a screen and cinematic language. That was my intention by choosing this particular scene and its symbolism.

I also think this is one of the greatest moments of Rhaenys, maybe the opposite one to her defeat in Dorne. This last fact and the attention of Aegon + the charisma of Visenya make me feel like Rhaenys and Meraxes are probably the most forgotten characters of the 6 who started the conquest. But in my opinion, they are not just important but absolutely crucial in the whole story.

The technique I’ve used for this concept/illustration is simply digital painting and Photoshop techniques. No 3D and, of course, no AI, just #humanart. I hope I’ve been able to catch something of the great George R.R. Martin’s magic as It shocked me the first time I read about the scene. ASOIAF is one of my main inspirations, and sharing it with the world is one of my deepest wishes. We should not just #benicetogeorge but also #begreatfulwithgeorge for such an amazing world.
