The Hightower host at Tumbleton
One of the illustrations I had the pleasure of making for "The Rise of the Dragon, An Illustrated History of the Targaryen Dynasty, Volume One" by George RR Martin, Elio García and Linda Antonsson.
The story behind Tumbleton battle and the village itself is one of those one can imagine with some kind sadness. Before the Dance of the Dragons, Tumbleton was a flourishing village focused on commerce, with markets, shops...etc. During the dance, it became a great field of ashes, violence and cruelty. It's one of those places that became a great scar in history and Westeros.
"Much of Tumbleton was burned to ash by dragonfire. Tumbleton was savagely sacked by the greens who encamped outside the walls. Ser Jon Roxton killed Lord Footly and claimed his wife, Lady Sharis Footly (...) The dragons Vermithor, Silverwing, and Seasmoke fought during the Second Battle of Tumbleton, in which the town was further damaged"
"Seldom has any town or city in the history of the Seven Kingdoms been subject to as long or as cruel or as savage a sack as Tumbleton after the Treasons" - Archmaester Gyldayn.
